Prince Charles Visit

In January 1994, Prince Charles visited Phuoc Hue Monastery as part of his Sydney tour coinciding with Australia Day. As it was reported in the words of Catherine Foster in The Christian Science Monitor, he visited the “Temple for wisdom, happiness, and compassion.” For the both the Vietnamese and Buddhist community in general, this visit was a particular honour signifying the integral presence and role of both the Vietnamese community and Buddhism in the social and cultural fabric of Australia. To commemorate the visit, the Most Venerable presented Prince Charles with two tokens of goodwill: the first, a portrait of himself taken with Queen Elizabeth II (Prince Charles’s mother) at Government House in 1992; the second, a portrait of the Maitreya Buddha (the Buddha of the Future).
